Full size, not a preview
Remove.bg's free download is a small preview, up to about a quarter of a megapixel. That is fine for a thumbnail. For a product photo, a profile picture on a large screen, or anything you want to print, you need the full size, and on Remove.bg that costs a credit per image.
Our background remover finds the subject with an AI model, then applies the cutout to your original photo. The result has the same size as your image, and it does not cost anything.
Your photos are not uploaded
Background removal is often done on photos of people. Remove.bg processes each image on its servers, so the photo has to be uploaded first. You cannot check what happens to it there, or whether it is kept and used to train models. Uploading means trusting the company with it.
Here, the AI model downloads to your browser once, and after that your own device does the work. Your photos never leave your computer or phone, so we cannot see them or keep them.
You do not have to take our word for it. Open a tool, then turn off Wi-Fi or unplug the network cable. The tool still works, because nothing needs to go anywhere. If you are technical, open your browser's developer tools and watch the network tab while a file is processed: the file is not sent.
No credits, no account
Because your device runs the model, each image costs us nothing to process. That is why there are no credits, no plan and no limit. Add one photo or fifty, choose a transparent or solid color background, and download the results one by one or as a ZIP file.

Questions people ask
- Does it work on photos of people?
- Yes. It handles people, pets, products and most objects. Photos with a clear subject and good contrast give the cleanest results.
- Is the result a transparent PNG?
- Yes, by default. You can also choose a solid color background before you process the images.
- Is there a size limit?
- We do not set one, and the result has the same size as your photo. Very large photos take longer, especially on phones.
- Can I process many images at once?
- Yes. Add several images, remove the backgrounds in one go, and download them one by one or as a ZIP file.
- Why does it take a moment the first time?
- The first time, your browser downloads the AI model. After that, the model is ready, and each image is processed on your device.
- Is it also a free Photoroom alternative?
