About PDF to LaTeX

PDF to LaTeX reads the document's structure back out of the page: sections, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, and mathematics become a LaTeX project you can compile and keep editing.

Runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

How to use it

1.Pick a PDF with selectable text; papers and reports produced by LaTeX itself convert best.
2.Convert, then look over the generated source in the preview: title block, sections, tables, equations, and figure placement.
3.Download the project archive, compile it with pdflatex or Tectonic, and compare against the original.

Options

Figures and vector charts are carried over as images in a figures/ folder, referenced with \includegraphics.
Ruled tables become booktabs tabulars; formulas set in TeX math fonts come back as $...$ and equation environments.
Page size, margins, and one- or two-column layout are measured from the document and written into the preamble.

Limitations

A PDF stores drawn glyphs, not source. The LaTeX is a reconstruction: numbering is regenerated, custom macros and styles are not recovered.
Complex mathematics survives as its visible pieces. Stacked fractions are reassembled where the layout allows, but intricate displays need a pass by hand.
Scanned documents have no text layer to convert. OCR them first.

Common questions

Will the recompiled PDF match the original exactly?

It compiles to the same structure, geometry, and content, but LaTeX renumbers sections, tables, and equations itself and reflows paragraphs, so line breaks and page breaks can differ.

Do figures come across?

Yes. Photos are extracted directly and vector charts are redrawn as images, all packed into the archive's figures/ folder.

What about the bibliography?

A references section becomes a thebibliography environment with one \bibitem per entry, ready to swap for BibTeX when you have the original .bib.
