Limitations

A converted copy may drop camera profiles, extra frames, and app-specific metadata from the original container.
Exporting to JPEG loses transparency and adds another lossy generation on top of already compressed pixels.

Common questions

Can I just rename a .heic to .jpg?

No. That changes the name, not the bytes. Something has to decode the HEIC and write a real JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF.

Why is an iPhone photo slower to convert?

The fallback decoder loads its format support and transforms the image before the browser can show it. That work happens on your device.
